Characteristics of Nylon (PA) material

Nylon (Nylon,Polyamide, PA) is a plastic made of polyamide resins. This kind of resin can be prepared by diamine and dibasic acid through condensation, can also be prepared by amino acid after dehydration of lactam through ring-opening polymerization, and PS, PE, PP, etc., PA does not soften gradually with the increase of heating temperature, but softened in a narrow temperature range close to the melting point, the melting point is very obvious, melting point: 215-225℃. Once the temperature is reached, flow occurs.


There are many varieties of PA, mainly PA6, PA66, PA610, PA11, PA12, PA1010, PA612, PA46, PA6T, PA9 and so on. PA6 and PA66 are most commonly used.


Advantages of PA performance


1. High mechanical strength, good toughness, high tensile and compressive strength. The specific tensile strength is higher than metal, the specific compressive strength is comparable to metal, but it is not as rigid as metal. The tensile strength is close to the yield strength, which is more than twice that of ABS. The impact, stress and vibration absorption ability is strong, the impact strength is much higher than the general plastic, and better than the acetal resin.


2. Outstanding fatigue resistance, the parts can still maintain the original mechanical strength after repeated bending. PA is often used in situations where the periodic fatigue effect is very obvious, such as common escalator handrails and new bicycle plastic wheels.

3. High softening point, heat resistance (such as nylon 46, etc., high crystalline nylon heat deformation temperature is high, can be used at 150 degrees for a long time. After PA66 is reinforced by glass fiber, its thermal deformation temperature reaches more than 250 degrees.


4. Smooth surface, small friction coefficient, wear resistance. When used as moving mechanical components, it has self-lubrication, low noise, and can be used without lubricant when the friction effect is not too high. If you really need to use lubricants to reduce friction or help heat dissipation, water, oil, grease, etc., can be selected. As a result, it has a long service life as a transmission component.


5. Corrosion resistance, alkali and most salts, but also resistant to weak acids, oil, gasoline, aromatic compounds and general solvents, aromatic compounds are inert, but not resistant to strong acids and oxidants. It can resist the erosion of gasoline, oil, fat, alcohol, weak alkali and has good anti-aging ability. Can be used as lubricating oil, fuel and other packaging materials.


6. Self-extinguishing, non-toxic, odorless, good weather resistance, inert to biological erosion, and good antibacterial and mildew resistance.


7. Excellent electrical performance. Good electrical insulation, nylon volume resistance is high, high breakdown voltage, in a dry environment, can be used as a frequency insulation material, even in a high humidity environment still has good electrical insulation.


8. Light weight, easy to dye, easy to form. Fast flow due to low melt viscosity. Easy to fill the mold, high freezing point after filling the mold, can be quickly shaped, so the molding cycle is short, high production efficiency.
